Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome:

Its something all women should be aware of. Here are some of the facts:

  • Affects 1 in 5 women
  • can be caused by obesity, type two diabetes and genetics
  • It can also cause obesity and type two diabetes
  • it is one of the leading causes of infertility in women.
  • Can cause hair growth in uncommon places
  • Can cause acne and psoriasis
  • Causes miscarriages, sleep apnea and high blood pressure
  • Increased risk of stroke and uterine cancer

So, why am I telling you this? For one there needs to be more awareness. Millions of women walk around every day not knowing they have this disease. The second reason for this is because I have this, I have it and have suffered from the teasing that comes with it because of the weight gain, acne and psoriases. I used to be skinny, now not so much, however I am working towards losing this weight, for both health reasons and because I want to be healthier (and if the weight can be lost, even though it makes it more difficult, then the disease can be controlled). A lot of people don’t realize that those who are overweight, are not by choice, there are reasons why. I have tried for years to lose this weight and have managed 10 pounds, its not for the lack of trying, I am active, I don’t eat a lot and what I do eat is healthy, and I’m not huge, I’m just short, and because I’m short it results in my rating to be considered overweight different. So, this wasn’t meant to turn into a debate on weight however maybe next time, those who criticize, will stop and think before insulting someone.
